How to Get My Computer to Recognize My New Hard Drive – Complete Tutorial by NoobPC.com with Pictures

Quick and Useful How To:
Hard drive is completely empty of data when it comes from the factory. This is because the hard drive manufacturer doesn't know if the hard drive is going to go in a computer or a different device, such as a DVR, each of which uses a different hard drive format. When you install the hard drive in a computer, the operating system immediately recognizes it. But you must format the hard drive to get your computer to recognize it in a usable way.

1. Press windows key + R to open run window.

2. Type compmgmt.msc and hit ENTER.

3. New window will open

4. Click on Storage and double click on Disk Managment. Right click on unallocated space and click Format. (Note: on our PC there's no unallocated space, because its already done.)

5. Call it whatever you want and Click OK.

6. Now your hard drive will be recognizable. Open My Computer and check.

Hope this helps.
