How to Deal With Internet Scams

It is an unfortunate fact that there are many people out there who have negative intentions, including a goal to scam you out of money or even your identity. A portion of scammers end up getting their victims straight from the Internet. The Internet offers these people an easy way to get your personal and financial information or even to trick you into sending them money. If you think you've been scammed, there are specific things that you can do to deal with it.

IMPORTANT

1. Stop all contact with the scammers. Some victims are in denial and continue to communicate with the scammers in an attempt to prove to themselves that it is not a scam. If you think you've been scammed, play it safe and stop contact.

2. Alert any banks or credit card companies you use about the scam. Your bank should put a halt on activities and alert you to any attempted transactions. Your credit card numbers should all be changed.

3. Don't fall into any traps associated with Internet scams. A different group of scammers pretend to investigate Internet scams for a fee, or they pretend to be the police and request more money to catch the scammers. Never give money or information to these people.

4. Let any website where the scam took place, such as an Internet auction site or host website, know about the scam. These sites need your help to prevent scammers from infiltrating the site in the future and will sometimes refund the money you lost.

5. Report the Internet scam to your county or district attorney as soon as possible.

6. Report the scam to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) of the FBI and the National White Collar Complaint Center. (See Resources)

How to recover missing, lost, or deleted files?

Cause:

Lost files can occur because of any of the below possibilities.
  1. File was mistakenly deleted.
  2. File was corrupt and deleted by scandisk.
  3. Another program deleted the file.
  4. File is password protected.

Solution

Before reviewing the below recommendations and suggestions, verify that the files have actually been deleted; in some cases the files may have been moved. You can search the hard disk drive for the files you believe to be missing by running find or search on the computer.

Recover file from backup

If the file has been backed up to floppy disk or other medium it is recommended that the file be restored from that backup if the file cannot be found.

Restore from Recycling Bin or Trash

If you are running Apple MacOS, Microsoft Windows 95, NT, 98, 2000, ME, XP, Vista, or later operating system and the file has been recently deleted it is possible that the file may still be in the Trash or Recycle Bin. If present within this area it can be recovered.

Download freeware program or purchase a program

Below is a list of freeware file recovery programs that can be used freely to recover lost data.
  1. PC Inspector File Recover
  2. Restoration

How to Convert YouTube Videos to Powerpoint 2007

Quick How To:

Netflix is a movie rental company that sends movies directly to your home. Members also have the Watch Instantly feature, which allows them to instantly watch certain movies and television shows directly on their home computers using Internet Explorer. Some members might want to capture those streaming files and save them onto their computers. Provided that you have the right program, it's easy to grab those files from Netflix.

1. Download Replay Media Catcher here. This program allows you to save streaming video files from different websites, including Netflix, and save them directly to your computer.

2. Open the program by double-clicking on the icon on your computer screen. The program opens in a new window and offers several different options. Leave it alone while you go to Netflix.

3. Log into your Netflix account and select one of the videos. Let it finish buffering, but press "Play" before it actually begins playing the video. It may take several minutes to finish buffering, depending on your connection speed.

4. Look for the "Start Recording" button at the bottom of the Replay Media Catcher window and press it. This looks like a large red button. This records any streaming files you have open on your computer.

5. Go to "Transfer" > "Play Media" and select the file you just recorded from Netflix. This gives you the chance to make sure the entire video recorded so you can watch it again at a later time. Save the file by going to "Transfer" > "Rename" and giving the file a new name.

How to Get My Computer to Recognize My New Hard Drive – Complete Tutorial by NoobPC.com with Pictures

Quick and Useful How To:
Hard drive is completely empty of data when it comes from the factory. This is because the hard drive manufacturer doesn't know if the hard drive is going to go in a computer or a different device, such as a DVR, each of which uses a different hard drive format. When you install the hard drive in a computer, the operating system immediately recognizes it. But you must format the hard drive to get your computer to recognize it in a usable way.

1. Press windows key + R to open run window.

2. Type compmgmt.msc and hit ENTER.

3. New window will open

4. Click on Storage and double click on Disk Managment. Right click on unallocated space and click Format. (Note: on our PC there's no unallocated space, because its already done.)

5. Call it whatever you want and Click OK.

6. Now your hard drive will be recognizable. Open My Computer and check.

Hope this helps.
